They’re both savior figures. The parallel shown was intentionally done. It’s not sacrilegious to recognize this, if that’s your concern. The “Christ figure” is a common character type in fiction, and Aang is a stronger Christ figure than many examples I’ve seen. Wikipedia has a nice page about it and a list.
It’s literally obvious from the very first scene, when we see two siblings fishing before joining the savior on his journey.
